Diet And Depression
Depression is one of the most frequent psychological problems encountered in medical practice. Stress, the main cause of depression, depletes the body of vital nutrients. Supporting brain function with excellent nutrition is going to go a long way in the prevention of epidemic proportions of brain diseases that are rampant in our modern culture. Depression is only one of the many signs that the brain is a delicate organ and needs nurturing just like the rest of the vital organs in the body.
Modern life-style goes hand-in-hand with anxiety, thoughts of despair and depression. Because we are always in a state of “worry:” we are worried about losing our job; worried about losing our house… Not to mention ANY unexpected, added traumas that might occur in life. This constant state of worry and fear has our body running in a state alarm (“fight or flight” response)–which is normally reserved only for emergencies. Operating in fight or flight all the time, produces chemical toxins that build up. These toxins produce an acidic environment, which is the foundation of all disease.
The fact is, there are some very depressing things going on in the world all around us. We need as much help as we can get when it comes to handling the stresses of everyday life. We can support our body tremendously by making choices that help to balance the bodies internal environment–and by limiting stressors in our life. Excellent nutrition is critical during stressful times–or when your body is in “recovery” from an emotional trauma.
If you are depressed, your brain is in recovery. But, frankly, eating a standard “good” diet may not enough to make any difference if you are depressed. This is due to the poor quality of food that is available–and–the diligence required to be consistent with a healthy diet. This creates even more stress…
