The Sugar Addiction Starts Here

HOW DO PARENTS CREATE DIABETES AND OBESITY?

This little bear is where it all begins… Parents, if you are relying on a multi-vitamin to keep your child healthy, here’s what you need to know. Not only are you training your young child to rely on a magic little “pill” coming from a bottle to make them healthy–but you are feeding them sugar–disguised as a multi-vitamin.

In the case of this little bear, albeit “organic” and “vegetarian”, glucose syrup and cane sugar are the first 2 ingredients. This is one of the most subtle and unconscious ways that parents create a much bigger, long-term problem. Worse, they think they are doing something that is “healthy” for their kids.

Gummy bear vitamin

The truth is, no child needs a sugar supplement! This only further obstructs their young impressionable palette and reinforces the requirement for sweet tasting foods.

If you want to make sure that your child is getting enough Vitamin D and Vitamin C (as this little bear claims to provide), instead of offering them a sugar coated bear, consider spending time with them out in the sunlight, playing in nature. Exposure to natural sunlight is, by far, the most valuable way to ensure your child is getting enough Vitamin D. Unfortunately, many parents have been led to believe that sunlight is dangerous and should be avoided. This could not be further from the truth. Sunlight is absolutely vital for immune health and countless studies prove this to be true. It is essential for adults too!

As for Vitamin C, consider adding a dash of  Wildcrafted Camu Camu Berry Powder to your families morning superfood smoothie. Camu Camu has 50 times the vitamin C by weight than an orange–with absolutely no sugar! If your child is old enough to chew a sugar bear vitamin–they are old enough to drink a smoothie–and participate in making it.

Engaging your young child in the preparation of their own healthy meals (by encouraging them help you) is the best health insurance policy available! Every choice you make about food, is an opportunity to model for your children exactly what the body needs and how to take care of it. They are learning about health by watching everything that you eat. They are learning how to take care of their body–by watching how you take care of yours…

The overconsumption of  carbohydrates and sugars is one of the main causes of obesity, diabetes, chronic-disease and metabolic syndrome in our culture, today. These diseases are a very recent phenomenon in our human history and are sweeping the nation. Choosing foods that create a balance in blood sugar is essential for addressing this epidemic.

The blood sugar “roller coaster” effects our moods, our energy levels, our metabolism, our endocrine function and it is taxing on virtually every system of the body. Carbohydrates turn to sugars which enter the blood stream. Insulin is then released to bring the blood sugar levels down–so we don’t die. Unfortunately, after insulin is released, the blood sugar drops below normal (also known as crashing). This is when the brain tells your body to eat more carbs. Hence, the never ending blood sugar roller coaster that most people (and children) ride around on all day long…

Moving away from a carbohydrate based diet will help stabilize blood sugar and balance the gut flora and pH (acid/base). This is essential for the absorption of nutrients and for healing to occur naturally in the body. Choosing foods that support healthy blood sugar balance is one of the keys to preventing insulin resistance, weight gain and diabetes…
